Loot Crate Reveal – December 2015 – Galaxy

Loot Crate is a monthly subscription box costing $19.95 (US) a month which delivers assorted geekery and fandom goodies to its subscribers. It comes with an optional add-on of Lvl Up; giving further accessories for a separate payment.

Each month Loot Crate comes with a different theme. December’s theme is Galaxy!

Halo 5: Guardians Ammo Tin Collectible (and Game Code)

Despite not being a Halo fan (simmer down, I’m not a fan of any pure shooter) I actually love this item. Collectible tins are something a little different and neat! I would love something like this for Borderlands or a different franchise and being that Halo is so popular I imagine the vast majority of Looters are happy with this one. Put your figures on it, store your card collection in it, give it to your frat boy friend; this item is a win!

This also came with an in-game item code for Halo 5. Since I don’t have an Xbox One I’ll be selling it, as I’m sure many will. It would have been nice to include an option for PS users, maybe an option for what consoles you have in your house and Loot Crate could slightly customise for items like this!

An exclusive Star Wars Pop is a huge item and I should be dancing, buuuut for some reason I’m not. It’s still a great loot, but I managed to pinpoint my lack of excitement’s origin.

I’m not a massive fan of the Funko Pop style, so for me I tend only to buy the ones that are iconic enough that they are instantly recognisable. Between the ‘oldness’ (As of The Force Awakens) and the snow gear, this wasn’t instantly recognisable as Han Solo for me and I feel that it doesn’t have that classic Iconic look. That being said, it’s still a Funko Pop, an exclusive and a Star Wars item. I’m betting most Looters are over the moon with this one and honestly, I’m happy with it despite the nitpicking.

Apologies for not unboxing this one for photos, but I’m planning to sell mine mint in box!

Space Themed T-shirt in Retro Pixel style

Alright I’m gonna go ahead and say it. Hands down my favourite Loot Crate t-shirt so far. Basically just a mish mash of all the exciting space themed stuff that’s been happening recently, done in pixellated retro game style. I’d love to say 8-bit, but I’m not 100% confident that’s the right number of bits!
Great colours, great design and nice quality and thickness. Just overall a frickin’ badass shirt that’s a theme that’s vague enough to be worn basically any wintertime. Gave it to hubby to rock in his nerd shirt collection!

EXCLUSIVE Star Wars BB-8 Socks

And the crowd goes wild! Whoooooooo. The only reason to remove a point from these exclusive beauties and the only foreseeable controversy, is the sizing when it comes to socks. As a lady with large feet (size 9.5-10) I can’t tell you how impossible it is to get women’s socks on the large end of the scale and I know there are quite a few fellas out there with size 14 and 15 flippers flapping around at the end of their manly, manly calves. These socks are one size fits most, but it’s gotta be disappointing to get them and then be unable to wear them.

As a plus-size lady I’ve learned the ‘slouch’ trick to wear tight-calved socks, but sadly little BB-8 is mostly hidden once I slouch those bad-boys to a wearable height!

Still love these socks though. Fun little unisex item that had me excited with the addition of The Force Awakens’ resident droid.

Exclusive Galaxy Quest Embroidered Patch

I wasn’t sure what to expect for this month’s promised Galaxy Quest item, mostly because I didn’t think there was any actual merchandise for it.  But praise be, Loot Crate brought us this exclusive patch! This might not be everyone’s thing, but for me it was a call from the heart and I answered double fast.

I have this friend who absolutely rocks a jean jacket with patches and it was a look that definitely flew back into fashion in 2015. As a busty lady, I knew my days of rocking denim tops were far behind me in the less buxomy time of my youth, but seeing those patches had awakened a fire in me. Since then I found several more amazing and unrefusable patches.

So with the addition of this one, it appears my time has come and I can no longer delay it. I must find something that I can add patches to in a cool ‘effortless’ way and rock it appropriately. Suggestions can be left in the comments!

As always, when receiving Loot Crate, subscribers are treated to some extra items. So here’s my ratings for this month’s box, badge and Loot Crate magazine:

Loot-Cryo themed box

I actually forgot to take a picture of this one separately, but the majority of it can be seen behind the Galaxy Quest patch. My overwhelming feeling is ‘meh’. I much prefer the colour of this to last month’s and the design is better, but still a bit boring and underwhelming overall.

Loot Crate Button

Holy wow….not sure  if Loot Crate somehow miraculously heard my call, or if this was already in the works, but talk about button improvement. See now, this, I would wear on my bag. Branding is more minimal, design is bigger and muuuuch better. Kudos.

Yes, this is a throw back reference. Welcome to the opposite of last month’s reveal.

Loot Crate Galaxy Magazine

Again, the interview was the most interesting part for me, learning about the process and artist behind this month’s t-shirt was a good hook. As an artist I love reading anything art or creative related.

The Halo interview would be of interest to anyone interested on the franchise, but a bit lukewarm overall.

Lots of really good items! Even the one’s that weren’t in my ‘fandom’. So far my Loot Crate’s have seemed to follow a very one-on one-off pattern in which every second crate is decent, so let’s prove or disprove that theory next reveal!

Lots of exclusive items in popular franchises give this crate awesome value for money. There was a great variety of product types in this crate too. Definitely one of the better Crates in my opinion!

Subscribe to Loot Crate here to be in time for January’s Crate of ‘Invasion’.
