Bioré baking soda Loquacious Lorna review

These two new facial products from popular brand Bioré are part of their ‘Don’t be Dirty’ skincare  line. While I have you here, let me just point out how much I hate that slogan. Don’t sell me a product by telling me I’m dirty without it. It’s my dirt and I might like it, thank you very much.

Searching for dirty gif was a terrible idea…

Instead tell me why I should buy your product. Will it improve my skin? Will it get rid of these craters on my nose called blackheads? If I want to be cleaner, I’ll just use water, thanks!

So here’s the nitty gritty on these two baking soda products from Bioré (and no they aren’t actually gritty!)

Bioré says:

Introducing baking soda, your new secret weapon in the fight for clean pores. This concentrated powder scrub foams up on contact with water, gently exfoliating and diving deep into pores to break up oil and impurities.

  • Great for combination skin
  • Dermatologist Tested

Loquacious Lorna says:

I really liked Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub. In my opinion, it was actually preferable to the Bioré Baking Soda Pore Cleanser in many ways, though I used both in conjunction.

I have combination skin so I worry a lot about exfoliating scrubs drying out my skin or damaging it, while needing a lot of tough love on my nose area (especially those pesky pores) With the Baking Soda scrub I didn’t get dried out at all and after using it for almost two weeks, I certainly noticed a difference.

My skin was a lot softer and smoother, especially immediately after I used it.

Unfortunately that tended to fade over the next couple of days, but it still left my skin softer than before, so much so that I’ve been using it without a moisturiser and my skin is still in a good condition with no visible dry patches!

Unlike some reviewers I didn’t find this too rough even though I added only a little water. This could be because my usual scrub is quite a rough charcoal so in comparison this felt very soft and gentle. I will definitely continue to use this product three times a week and would recommend it to anyone with combination skin.

The price is a little higher than I’d like, but the only other disappointment was that I didn’t really find it foamed noticeably at all. Maybe I was expecting too much, like a bath bomb style fizzing, but what I got was a pretty good bi-weekly scrub instead.

Bioré® Baking Soda Pore Cleanser

Bioré says:

Ideal for combination skin, this oil-free formula contains cleansing ingredients that excavate grime and oil from pores. At the same time, the formula gently smooths away dead cells.

Loquacious Lorna says:

Out of the new Baking Soda products by Biore, this one was my least favourite. I much preferred the Scrub over this for one simple reason. I currently have a cleanser that doesn’t require rinsing, so I found this daily use cleanser took far too long to apply and then wash off and I think over long term I’d be too lazy to use it.

I’m only slightly less lazy than this fine fellow

I did find it made some difference to my pores, cleaning out some of the dirt, but after almost two weeks of use there were still a reasonable amount of blackheads left.

It’s certainly not a bad cleanser and for the price is actually really good!

Unfortunately, though, it’s nowhere near as good as my go to cleanser so it’s not a product I would continue to buy. This is solely due to my personal preference as I didn’t like the application process and would have liked to see an extreme difference in my pores!

When used in conjunction with the Baking Soda Scrub, it’s still a pretty nice product and for someone with only a mild blackhead problem, might eradicate it totally.

For those of us with deep seated blackheads and large pores, Bioré needs to work on something atomic to help us out!

Really enjoyed reading about #BioreBakingSoda products I have to try them. @Influenster.

    • Thanks Chrissy! I’m still using the scrub, I like that it’s gentler than my old one (a kind of tough charcoal scrub)
